Welcome to this week’s Travel Currents! I’ve gathered a few travel updates that caught my eye, from a new U.S. flight requirement to river-cruise flexibility and some exciting Caribbean news. Here’s what you’ll want to know as you plan your next getaway.
If you’re flying internationally to the United States, there’s a new requirement to know about. Beginning at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on November 3, travelers boarding international flights to the U.S. must complete an attestation confirming they have not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) during the previous 21 days.
The requirement applies to everyone boarding an international flight to the United States, including U.S. citizens. Airlines will collect the declaration before boarding, so travelers should check with their airline for instructions. The order is currently scheduled to remain in effect through December 18, 2026, unless it changes sooner.
What you should know: Check your airline’s instructions before heading to the airport. You do not need to print the CDC form yourself; the airline will provide and collect the attestation.

River cruising can be affected by low water levels, severe weather, and other unexpected changes. Riviera Travel has introduced a Vacation Guarantee to give travelers more options when significant itinerary changes happen before departure.
Depending on the situation and the policy’s terms, travelers may continue with the revised trip and receive a goodwill gesture, reschedule for the following year, or cancel for a full refund.
What you should know: When comparing river cruises, ask what happens if water levels or other conditions affect your itinerary. Knowing your options ahead of time can make a disruption a little less stressful.

Planning a Mediterranean cruise a couple of years from now? Norwegian Cruise Line has opened bookings for Norwegian Bella, the final ship in its Prima Class.
Beginning in May 2028, the ship is scheduled to sail seven-night round-trip cruises from Barcelona. Planned destinations include Rome, Florence and Salerno in Italy, Marseille in France, and Palma de Mallorca in Spain.
What you should know: If the Mediterranean is on your wish list, start thinking about whether you’d like to add a few days in Europe before or after your cruise.

The Caribbean welcomed 21.7 million cruise passenger visits during the first half of 2026, an 11% increase over the same period last year. Stayover tourism grew more slowly, by 1.9%, and individual destinations saw different results.
One important detail: cruise passenger visits are not the same as unique travelers. A passenger visiting several islands may be counted at each port.
What you should know: When choosing a cruise itinerary, think about the kind of experience you want in each port, not just how many destinations are listed.

Holland America’s RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay has some new ways to enjoy a day ashore. Updates include a Beach Club with priority tendering and dedicated service, plus a complimentary food pavilion serving island-inspired barbecue. The island also has refreshed cabanas and beach amenities, renovated bars and eateries, and pickleball courts.
The Beach Club is a paid experience, reported at $125 per person. The food pavilion is complimentary. Check current pricing and inclusions before booking.

What you should know: Before booking an island add-on, check what’s included and decide whether the extra amenities are worth it for your day.

Give yourself a little extra time when travel requirements change. Before leaving for the airport, check your airline’s app and review any destination or entry requirements. A few minutes of preparation can help you avoid an unpleasant surprise at check-in.
When you’re in port on a cruise, what kind of day do you enjoy most?
I’d love to hear what makes your ideal port day!
