Cruisers Weekly News June 2, 2026

Big Island Updates, a Brand-New Viking Ship & More Cruise Headlines This Week 🛳️

It’s been a busy week in the cruise world, with exciting updates from both Norwegian and Viking—and one story that’s getting cruisers talking.

If you like keeping up with what’s new in cruising (or just enjoy dreaming about your next vacation), here’s this week’s roundup.

🌊 Norwegian Cruise Line Announces Opening Date for Great Tides Waterpark

Norwegian Cruise Line officially revealed that Great Tides Waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay will open on September 4, 2026.

This is a pretty big addition for Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas and could completely change the experience there for many guests.

The new waterpark will include:

  • 19 waterslides
  • a massive splash zone for kids
  • an 800-foot dynamic river
  • cliff jumps
  • private cabanas
  • three new food trucks
  • and even swim-up bars

Day passes are now becoming available for guests sailing to Great Stirrup Cay on or after opening day.

For cruisers who already love a beach day on Great Stirrup Cay, this adds another fun option—especially for families or anyone traveling with kids or teens.

My question for you:
Would you head straight for the slides… or skip the waterpark and find a beach chair by the ocean instead?

🛳️ Viking Welcomes Its Newest Ship, Viking Mira

Viking also made news this week after officially taking delivery of Viking Mira, the newest ship to join the fleet.

The ship continues Viking’s signature style with:

  • space for around 1,000 guests
  • elegant Scandinavian-inspired design
  • destination-focused itineraries
  • and the quieter, smaller-ship atmosphere Viking cruisers love

Viking also shared that more ships are already in the pipeline, including future vessels using hydrogen-based propulsion technology.

If you enjoy smaller ships with a more relaxed feel, Viking keeps leaning into that experience while continuing to grow.

💬 What Cruisers Are Talking About This Week

The biggest buzz this week seems to be around Norwegian’s island upgrades.

Private destinations keep becoming a bigger part of the cruise experience, and cruise lines are putting more money into making those stops feel like destinations all on their own—not just another port day.

For some cruisers, that’s exciting.

For others… the perfect private island day still looks like a lounger, a drink in hand, and nowhere to be.

And honestly? Both sound pretty great.

Final Boarding Call 🚢

That’s it for this week’s cruise headlines!

The one I’m most curious about is definitely Norwegian’s new waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay. It looks like a huge addition, and I’m interested to see what cruisers think once it officially opens.

Which update caught your attention this week?

Would you be excited about the new waterpark… or is the Viking Mira more your cruising style?

I’d love to hear what you think.
