There’s something I’m reminded of over and over when I’m helping clients plan a cruise: booking the cruise is only the beginning.

Things can change between the day you make your reservation and the day you walk onto the ship. Cruise lines introduce new programs, itineraries get adjusted, new experiences become available, and every once in a while, something completely unexpected happens.

That doesn't mean you should worry about every possible change. It just means it pays to stay informed.

🛳️ This Week in Cruising

🎉 Carnival Rewards Has Arrived

If you’re a Carnival cruiser, you may have noticed that something looks a little different in your loyalty account.

Carnival Rewards officially launched September 1, replacing the VIFP Club.

The new program has four status levels: Red, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. It also introduces a new way of earning rewards, with redeemable points and Status Qualifying Stars based on eligible spending.

For longtime Carnival cruisers, this is a pretty significant change. Your loyalty account isn't simply carrying on under a new name. The way guests earn and maintain status is changing, too.

There is some good news for existing loyal Carnival guests. Certain transition benefits apply, and guests who had already earned Diamond status by August 31 retain that status.

🏝️ Your Cruise Itinerary Can Change After You Book

Carnival is also making itinerary changes on select sailings of Carnival Conquest, Carnival Legend, and Carnival Elation.

Some of the changes involve Bahamas destinations, including Celebration Key and RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, with adjustments to port order and/or scheduled times.

And this is one of those pieces of cruise news that may seem pretty minor until it affects your vacation.

That's why I always recommend checking your itinerary again as your cruise gets closer, especially if you've arranged transportation or excursions independently. Understanding your all-aboard time is also important when you're making those plans.

A cruise itinerary is a plan, not a guarantee.

A little flexibility can go a long way toward keeping your vacation stress-free.

💰 RoyalUp Isn't Just About Cabins Anymore

Royal Caribbean's RoyalUp program has traditionally given guests the opportunity to bid for a stateroom upgrade.

Now, the concept is expanding.

Royal Caribbean is introducing RoyalUp Experiences, allowing guests to bid on certain premium experiences, including select onboard casitas as well as cabanas, beach beds, and other reserved spaces at destinations such as Perfect Day at CocoCay and Royal Beach Club Paradise Island.

There can be plenty of optional extras waiting once you get there.

My advice? Decide before you sail which extras are actually worth paying for to you.

That way, you're choosing the splurges you want instead of discovering them one credit-card swipe at a time. 😉

🌏 Disney Adventure Brings Cruising to Singapore

Disney Cruise Line's Disney Adventure is opening another door for travelers who want to combine cruising with an entirely different part of the world.

The ship sails roundtrip from Singapore, offering 3- and 4-night cruises.

Bookings for the next round of 2027–2028 sailings opened to the general public this week.

For travelers already dreaming about Southeast Asia, a cruise from Singapore could be an interesting way to add a few days at sea to a much larger trip.

It also makes for a good reminder that when you're planning a cruise vacation, the cruise doesn't have to be the entire vacation.

A few days exploring a destination before or after your cruise can turn a short sailing into a much bigger adventure.

⚓ When Your Cruise Doesn't Go as Planned

And now for the story nobody wants to read about their own cruise.

Royal Caribbean canceled a Serenade of the Seas Alaska sailing on September 1 after guests had already boarded in Vancouver. The ship had experienced technical problems that delayed its departure, and the necessary repairs couldn't be completed in time for the ship to safely sail.

When something unexpected happens, those things can become incredibly valuable.

It's also one reason I generally don't recommend flying into your cruise port the same day your ship is scheduled to leave. Giving yourself some cushion doesn't prevent every problem, but it can make a stressful situation considerably easier to manage.

💙 Cruise Tip of the Week

Check your cruise details again before you sail.

You don't have to obsess over your reservation every Tuesday night. 😂

But as your cruise gets closer, take another look at:

• Your itinerary and port times
• Shore excursions
• Transportation arrangements
• Cruise line notifications
• Travel documentation
• Your pre-cruise hotel and flight plans
